I have a vast range of experiences ranging from my journey from bricklaying apprentice soldier to commanding the Australian Army. I've service on operations with the United Nations in Namibia and I commanded a United Nations multi-national Brigade in East Timor. I lead the initial Australian Defence Force contribution into the Middle-East and Afghanistan in the aftermath of the September 11 strikes on the USA. I was a key planner for Australia's contribution to the Iraq war, and I commanded all Australian Defence Force operations for a lengthy period in 2005-2008. In my last three years I commanded the Australian Army sustaining its current operations, planning its force structure and people strategies for the medium term, and planning its force structure and capital equipment program for the longer term. While the Chief I planned and commanded the implementation of Army's biggest structural reform since the 1979's. I also implemented a major project to reduce the cost of ownership of the organisation while maintaining the capability outputs for which the Australian Army is famous. I also commanded the Army at a time where it suffered deaths and woundings on the battlefield and I implemented a major change to personnel policies to ensure better care of our soldiers and their families.

Have recently established a small consultancy company - SectorWest Pty LTD - which is focussed on providing strategic consultancy services to industries, boards and government departments. Based in Canberra but work nationally and internationally.
