Ken Jacob worked in professional theater from the age of 13 through college, first as a performer and then as a sound designer and crew boss. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, with a concentration in acoustics. mathematics, physics, architecture, and hearing science.He earned his master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a thesis entitled, “Acoustic Emission from Large Superconducting Magnets for Fusion”. While at MIT he studied under Electrical Engineering and Computer Science professor Amar G. Bose, and after graduating went to work for Bose Corporation for the next 36 years.At Bose, Ken started in research, eventually becoming the manager of the acoustic research group. His team spent 10 years creating the Auditioner system — a computer program and specialized audio playback system that allows acousticians and their clients to accurately hear the sound of a building before it’s constructed. The system is used today throughout the world.Later, ken led the Live Music Technology Group to research and develop an entirely new approach to live music amplification, known today as the Bose L1 family of products.He finished his career at Bose in 2020 as the executive in charge of design for the corporation. His organization was responsible for all product designs and all marketing and communication designs (for film, TV, online, print, packaging, etc.) and was responsible for defining the Bose brand.Today, Ken leads his own design consultancy, helping other companies and organizations to create and communicate their own innovative products and services.Extensive references and work samples are available on request.
