As VP of Systems Integration, Product Development and Operations, I established foundational systems and vendors to operate and scale business functions, staffed and built primary R&D and SGA departments, generated compensation and career ladder models, contributed to venture and grant fundraising and annual budgeting, managed multiple HQ relocations and logistics, established product development principles and philosophy, and was generally responsible for mobilizing, motivating and leading matrixed teams of scientists and engineers to define extensible technology architecture and initiate early stage NPI and consumable manufacturing units. From graduate school at Stanford, I surveyed the landscape for innovative, scalable, game-changing microarray technology companies and joined Illumina as a small, relatively unknown 100-person start-up, pre-commercialization, pre-revenue. Over the next 16yr, advancing from Scientist to Sr. Director, I collaborated with matrixed teams of scientists and engineers, to develop and commercialize a range of NGS, genotyping, gene expression, and qPCR systems and applications, resulting in game-changing life sciences products and multi-billion-dollar revenue streams. Illumina is now a recognized, global leader and industry powerhouse, at the forefront of personalized medicine using the power of genomics.
