I had a senior financial leadership role at the corporate centre of Cobham plc, a significant publicly traded international company. This group-wide international role with responsibility for Tax, Treasury, Insurance and M&A gave me wide-ranging experiences as Cobham grew, consolidated, financially restructured and eventually sold to Advent International for $5billion. From the mid 1990’s for the next ten to fifteen years, Cobham grew significantly by acquisition and I led all aspects of many M&A transactions, a number of which were extremely complex and demanding and included detailed dialogue with sellers, buyers, lawyers, bankers and regulators.To fund this growth, I led multiple funding projects from both debt and equity markets including at times when external markets were very challenging and separately when our own gearing was unexpectedly high.I have significant international experience on tax matters, and in particular led successful negotiations with tax authorities in UK and USA.I was a director on the Air Tanker joint venture and Churchill, the US workers compensation captive; in both cases these well run companies have delivered returns that were above expectation.
