My finance boutique, with a staff of 6, became the leasing company of choice for dot.com, biotech and film. At the same time long time Canadian manufacturers where retooling for the impending international trade battle ahead. My skill was building funding syndicates. Our largest funding partner was in the World Trade Centre.Near the end of the 90s deals averaged $10 million a year in new equipment financing. From the Dome to Ontario's favourite home grown hamburger chain and 5,000 other companies in between. I'm honoured to have met so many inspiring, entrepreneurial Canadians.What hasn't been inspiring was watching the thousands of companies I financed go out of business. For Tiley the leather goods company, six figure computerized cutting tables and 5 figure computerized sewing machines, where no match to keep them a float, against a tsunami of imports. The best dot.coms bought up for their patents and gone. I'd like to change the same outcome for others. Show less

I was hired by a one of a kind employer to work part-time at 15 years of age. Within a couple of years, was running the station on the weekend. Hired many of my friends and we grew the business. From just gas to car maintenance and service calls. We where all paid well and it was an amazing learning experience. Allowed to try new things and not punished if it didn't work out to well. Not so good, hired a couple of cute girl friends, from high school, to wash car windows wearing halter tops. Didn't bring the kind of attention and business hoped for. Pervs and angry wives actually.
