Division Director for the Division of Acute Disease Prevention, Emergency Response, and Environmental Health (ADPER/EH). Serves on the Department’s Senior Executive Team. Directs the work of five bureaus (Center for Acute Disease Epidemiology, Emergency and Trauma Services, Environmental Health Services, Immunizations & Tuberculosis, and Radiological Health), including over 100 staff members, and over $140 million budget.Provides leadership to the Department during public health response efforts related to natural disasters (e.g. 2019 MO River floods) and public health emergencies. Response efforts require close collaboration with key partners, as well as quick assessment and decision making skills..Administers complex policy issues that have cross agency implications. Engage policy makers, budget analysts, data managers, performance management, and legal staff to ensure a comprehensive approach in finding success.

Division Director for Environmental Health, and served on the Department’s Senior Executive Team. Provide oversight to four bureaus, and accountable for an approximately $9.5 million budget and 43 staff positions.During 2008, lead the establishment of the statewide Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Licensing Board created during the 2007 legislative session, providing licensing and regulatory oversight for over 12,000 professionals.Successfully advocated for and received a $368,000 appropriation from the 2013 Legislature to support environmental health fee-based programs in pool, tattoo, tanning, and radon.Co-Lead IDPH disaster response efforts during major floods in 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012 including leading IDPH Emergency Coordination Center, as well as representing IDPH at the State Emergency Operations Center.

Managed the Office of Technical Assistance (4 professional staff) in the Division of Environmental Health.Oversight responsibility for numerous programs affecting environmental health requiring extensive communication and collaboration skills, as well as program assessment and improvement efforts at the state and local level.

Performed environmental inspections and case management of lead poisoned children in close cooperation with county health departments, physicians, and community action groups. Worked closely with the Environmental Protection Agency in developing a lead program that became an EPA accredited state lead program.

Member of the Flood Recovery Team responsible for professional and technical support to county boards of health. Conducted private water well surveys for the Centers for Disease Control’s Nine State Private Water Well Study. Required excellent personal and communication skills.
