After 20 years in wine & spirits, I've returned to my publishing roots as Editor of Douglas Magazine. Douglas delivers in-depth editorial about Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island's vibrant business culture--its startups, disrupters and influencers. Page One also publishes YAM (lifestyle) and Spruce (home and decor) magazines.I grew up in a family of journalists: reporters, artists, photographers, so it was kinda preordained that I would become a writer, editor and publisher. First with Reader’s Digest Canada, then I co-founded St. Remy Press in Montreal, sold it to Quebecor and moved back to New York to work for Time Warner. They sent me to California as Editorial Director of Sunset Books, then to San Francisco to run the bureau there. Alas I fell in love with wine, quit my day job and eventually became a successful winemaker in Paso Robles. Eventually I moved back to Victoria, started the first distillery on the Island and created the iconic Victoria Gin. My holy grail was whisky, though, so eventually I started a second distillery at Devine, now known for their Glen Saanich and Ancient Grains. In 2021 I was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Canadian Whisky Awards. But eventually it was time to come full circle back to publishing, to write and edit again, and tell stories. So I’m delighted to be back in the saddle at Page One Publishing as the Editor of Douglas Magazine, working with an amazing team of freelancers, writers, art directors, photographers, and advertising and marketing folks.
