Kenan Drum serves as General Counsel to the Rules Chairman of the North Carolina House of Representatives. He is a double alumnus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is currently serving a four-year term on the U.N.C. Board of Visitors. Outside the legislature, he serves as Adjunct Professor of Business Law at N.C. Wesleyan University. Prior to working in government and higher education, Kenan practiced with one of North Carolina's largest law firms, focusing on litigation at both the State and federal level. He graduated from the U.N.C. School of Law as the Brooks Merit Scholar. During law school, Kenan served as Law Clerk to Sen. Thom Tillis on the United States Senate Judiciary Committee. Kenan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from U.N.C., double-majoring in American History and Spanish. On campus in Chapel Hill, he was the President of the Interfraternity Council, Commander of the U.S. Air Force R.O.T.C. Color Guard, and President of his pledge class at Chi Psi fraternity. He served on the board of the Carolina Liberty Foundation, and was the recipient of the 2014 U.N.C. Chancellor's Award as well as the 2015 U.N.C. Outstanding Senior Award.Outside the office, Kenan has volunteered his time in several community endeavors, including serving on the N.C. Bar Association's Finance & Development Committee, and as regional representative for the U.N.C. Law School Alumni Association. He is the founding and former Chairman of the Cape Fear Chapter of the Federalist Society, and has served his church on the Vestry Strategic Planning Board and Parish Life Committee. Kenan enjoys traveling, having visited 47 States, 27 State capitols, and 8 countries, with his most favorite recent stop in Ottawa, Ontario. He enjoys reading in Spanish and English, and dabbling in French. An avid mechanic, his favorite hobby is working on cars. When not underneath a vehicle, Kenan also enjoys studying historical figures, classic cinema, U.N.C. athletics, elephant and owl conservation, bird watching, deer hunting, and enjoying the outdoors at his family farm near the Virginia border.
