As Commander of the Police Services Bureau/Asst. Chief of Police (Authorized strength of 104 sworn police officers and 100 civilian staff in my command), I have responsibility for the operations of the police department's:6 Patrol Squads; Criminal Investigations Unit;Threat Assessment;Strategic Enforcement and Response Team (SERT);Special Operations;Explosives Detection Canine Teams;Emergency Management; Information Analysis Unit;Police Auxiliary;Safety Ambassadors; andCrime Prevention While the mission of the agency is to provide full police services to the University of Maryland - College Park campus, UMPD also provides police services for a large geographical area of the City of College Park in support of the Prince George's County Police Department, with whom we work closely in addition to our partners at M-NCPPC Police and Maryland State Police. To that end, I am involved in the following: City Multi Agency Services Team (CMAST) - PGSAO, PGPD, PGFD, UMPD, City of College Park, State Highway, PG Co. representatives and University officials working together to identify and solve issues in the greater College Park area. City of College Park Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee - Working with neighborhood associations to identify and solve challenges in city neighborhoods.Metropolitan Area Drug Task Force - working with other area law enforcement by providing investigators to the task force and coordinating with them.

Coordinate and investigate complaints against the police department, provide counsel and advice to the Chief of Police and Chief of Staff, coordinate and manage special projects.

Responsible for Professional Standards Reviews of all agency personnel to include most Internal Affairs Investigations and all Use of Force, Property Damage and Accident reviews. Collect and analyze agency data to compile Staffing Analysis/Workload Allocation reviews as well as end of year Use of Force Analyses. Serve as the Field Training Coordinator and manage the day-to-day operations of the Firearms program to include purchasing, scheduling, developing training and exercises. Responsible for the goal setting, evaluation, and supervision of three Sergeants, 21 sworn officers, 15 and probationary police officers. Serve as the Field Training Coordinator and Reviewer of all Uses of Force, vehicle accidents and other personnel actions for the agency.

As the Assistant Commander of Training and Special Operations, I was charged with the recruitment, hiring and training of new police officers into our police academy as well as the continuing education of the experienced police officers in the agency. My responsibilities also included the operational planning and management of special operations to include special events in College Park, crowd control and other considerations after athletic events, firearms instruction, purchase, range management, etc.
