I was born in the beautiful island nation of The Bahamas. Growing up my parents always taught me to always fight for what is right, especially for the most marginalized and vulnerable people among us. These values and teachings play a huge role in my life today and have helped me to become the person that I am. I moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2015 for tertiary education, where I attend Mount Saint Vincent University and graduated with a BBA in Marketing with a concentration in Management.I started my career in the Insurance industry where I had the opportunity to build connections with brokers and clients. As I progressed in my career, I was promoted to underwriting. I further developed my data analytical skills, risk assessment, data entry and built and maintained connections with brokers. In 2020, the conversation around racial inequity and systemic violence toward BIPOC communities became mainstream. These conversations were the catalyst for my increased involvement in Diversity and Inclusion at my workplace. During my time, I was involved in important discussions around workplace culture, systemic barriers and building a more inclusive and equitable workplace. I was given the opportunity to be a part of the Atlantic Region EDI committee and provided consultancy in collaboration with company leadership. During this time my passion for people and community flourished. I found a new calling where I did not only have a connection, being a Black immigrant, but an internal passion and conviction to help make a difference in my community and society at large.During the pandemic, it has further increased the economic and social inequalities around the world. I was given the opportunity to speak with both a Parliamentary Senator in The Bahamas as well as virtual meetings with other stakeholders. In these meetings, we discussed ideas around building a more equitable economy. I am driven by the idea of helping to create a meaningful difference in society and understanding the power of the collective. Working together for a brighter and more prosperous future for the next generations!When I am not at work, I love reading, indulging in the latest news in tech, going on hikes, playing with my dog Pluto and exploring the many cuisines here in Halifax.
