System Engineering Intern - Feedwater Systems
Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada
-Maintained the health of two safety related systems within Darlington Nuclear Generating Station-Performed regular in-person walkdowns of my assigned systems to monitor for potential issues and undocumented configuration changes-Provided technical support and recommendations to operations and maintenance staff regarding these systems, based on engineering knowledge, prior history, and existing documentation/regulations. These recommendations were aimed toward minimized the impact to the system's ability to operate, as well as maintaining a proper safety envelope for the station-Regularly performed risk evaluations regarding potential issues on my systems and advocated for regular maintenance, testing, and repairs-Supported unit outage operations, including the ~$1-2M inspection and repair of pressurized water tanks and the installation/use of a new nitrogen blanketing procedure during Refurbishment. Ensured that this work being done during these outages was done properly and advocated for repairs to be done to resolve any signs of degradation found during inspection.-(Thermal Performance Monitoring)Used telemetry software and Excel to compile sensor data from the station and quantify losses (in terms of megawatts) and sources of inefficiency. Advised Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance staff on the impact to electricity generation of certain issues and plant configurations. - Sent weekly reports on the current status of megawatt losses to station management. Also presented issues causing unplanned losses to management every month.-Recieved 8 "Value in Action"(ViA) commendations from management for various notable tasks and issues that I completed/resolved during my internship
