I have always known in my heart that I’ve wanted to help people—the difficult part was understanding how to marry my passion and skill set together to leave an impact on the world. In volunteering at a hospital I discovered a passion for nursing. While observing the nurses at the hospital, I was drawn to the practice because of the holistic type of care they provide. Nurses are crucial members of the care team who go beyond the physical needs by constantly coordinating with social workers, therapists, doctors, technicians and many more. In addition to biological and physical representations of illness, nursing means one must understand the entirety of someone’s life and understand that there are other external factors that can contribute to an individual’s health. As a new RN and current DNP Pediatric Primary Care student, I hope to use my experience within the intersectionality of medicine, public health, psychology, anthropology to nourish and develop my nursing skills. I want to become a health care professional with a passion for working, interacting, and helping people the best way I know -- with compassion and kindness.
