Brigham Young University Office Of Information Technology

Provo, Utah, United States

Feb 2023 - Jul 2024

Cybersecurity Specialist

During my time at Devmountain I spent 16 40-hour work weeks studying cybersecurity and its principles. The first 8 weeks of the program were focused on computer science and basic programming principles. The last 8 weeks was a deep dive into cybersecurity and where I gained most of my cybersecurity knowledge. Every morning I would learn concepts and principles and every afternoon I would apply those principles in a lab. Most of these labs were done in InfosecLearning Virtual Environments using Kali Linux. These labs focused on many principles like penetration testing, network scanning/configuration, forensic analysis, encryption techniques and the OSI model.

Assistant Manager

Provo, Utah, United States

During my time at Goodly Cookies I built upon skills learned during my time at Mrs. Cavanaughs Chocolates but with more of a leader mindset. When I was hired at goodly cookies they were considering closing the location because it wasn't profitable and had to undergo da big rehiring phase. Me and the other managers worked hard to ensure excellent customer experience and implemented successful marketing strategies such as student deals, date night deals and raffle events. By the time I left the business was profitable and the Provo location is still open.I also learned important skills in managing my time well. Between 15 college credits, helping manage a store, a girlfriend, social life, church duties, family, personal time and going to the gym I had a very busy schedule, one that needed structure. I applied some of the time management skills I learned on my mission and balanced all of them successfully.

Missionary

Hawaii, United States

As a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I was essentially on the clock whenever I was awake for 2 years. Through this I learned how to work long hours and push through anything even when I didn't feel like it, and I also learned how to manage time effectively so I could be as effective as possible.Every 6 weeks I could be paired with any other missionary in my mission, which meant I was often paired with people I wouldn't choose to be with. I learned how to get along with each one and am now confident in my abilities to work with anyone effectively. There were also many leadership opportunities on the mission and many times I was charged with leading the efforts of groups up to 12 other missionaries. I learned how to be a leader but also a team player.

Store Cashier

Mrs Cavanaughs Chocolates

Layton, Utah, United States

At Mrs. Cavanaughs Chocolates we focused on customer experience more than anything. Mrs. Cavanaughs was in direct competition with larger treats companies such as See's candies and in order to succeed we needed to ensure we could get new customers and keep them. I learned how to interact with customers in such a way that I was selling effectively and making sure they left with a smile. The store was small enough that only one person needed to run it most days. This meant that when I was working, I was solely responsible for the stores success. I had to learn to self-manage in order to ensure the store was well stocked, cleaned and presentable. Through my consistent efforts I became the highest paid cashier at the Layton location in just 4 months. There were 4 times a year that the store would experience a massive surge in business - Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Easter and Christmas. During the time leading up to these holidays, instead of the typical 1 person working we would have between 2-6 people working. Lines would build up and we needed to work effectively as a team to give the customers a great experience and make their visit quick. I learned how to be a team player in stressful environments and have used this skill in many other situations since my time working at Mrs. Cavanaughs.
