This role included six primary areas of responsibility: energy reduction, process innovation, project execution, plant automation, local IT support, and operations oversight.Energy Reduction:Identified and successfully deployed a new type of instrument in a dryer system, which enabled operational changes that reduce dryer energy cost by $100,000 per year with a $6,000 total investment. Standard operating procedures developed for operations and maintenance on unit. Cargill is considering a patent on this new measurement system. Reduced the energy used for drying by 31%. Implementation scheduled for many dryers throughout Cargill, Inc. A potential savings of several million dollars.Executed cooling tower performance improvement project. Inspected cooling capacity, nozzle and fill efficiency, and chemical and control utilization. Report utilized to increase performance across the company. Generated two of the top seventy-five ideas selected for final funding consideration under the Cargill Waste to Value Campaign. This worldwide campaign included all Cargill locations worldwide (160,000 employees in 67 countries).Recognized as Top Ten Ideators in 2008 by Cargill Corn Milling North America (2400 employees).Developed top idea selected by the Cargill Mill / Feed Process Development Group for potential deployment across all North American locations. Conducted plant trials to verify and support deployment of process improvements, including steep water solids reduction, dryer control, and J-Flow underflow valves with Emech actuators. Installed safety and environmental equipment auto valves in syrup loadout to prevent back injuries triggered by Root Cause Analysis investigation. Implemented chemical, carbon, and energy recovery projects. Developed Excel-based evaporator performance calculators for delivery to operators.
