As a first-generation to college student who worked her way up to Harvard, Middlebury, and a doctoral degree, I understand the heart of equity issues and perspective taking. My 'outside the box' thinking gives me an innovation edge, as I can zero in on the heart of an issue and emerge on the other side with a strategic plan to creatively problem-solve. As a Rowland Fellow in 2011, I addressed equity, the "elephant in the room issue" and radically changed the culture and climate of Burr and Burton Academy. Since that point, I've worked with schools and districts to focus their thinking on issues through data-driven decision making. While others also work with data, my strong emotional intelligence and commitment to spotlighting culture give my work a lasting change. I credit this relationship-building side of myself with my love of traveling and the new perspectives it gives me. Much of my work in education relies on strong managerial practices of the business world. More recently I have begun a journey into the world of non-profits, continuing my passion of working with historically marginalized populations, at the Special Needs Support Center.
