Education Volunteer
As a Peace Corps Primary Teacher Trainer serving in the Education Sector in a local community in The Gambia, I supported local teachers by building their capacity and training them to be resilient leaders. I helped develop resources such as the school library and curriculum materials in order to help improve students’ literary and numeracy skills and build the sustainability of the local school. In addition, I supported after school programs and extracurricular activities for around 100 students every week such as gardening club, counseling, extra study classes, and field trips. In addition, I designed, managed, and monitored two grant projects on tree planting and water system management alongside community counterparts which improved community infrastructure at the village level. I also taught a Career Guidance class for 50+ youths at a local agriculture center on a weekly basis on topics such as professionalism, job interview preparation, etc. to equip them for success in future careers. In all my activities, I utilized the Peace Corps Monitoring and Evaluation tracking and reporting system to track the overall progress of 5-10 active school or community projects in order to assess the project’s effectiveness, sustainability, and inclusivity as well as the community response through the collection of qualitative or quantitative data.
Club President And Founder
I developed a women’s peer mentorship program at Wheaton College with over 40 participants that aims to promote growth and guidance in all areas of life to female students. I led a cabinet of 3 women in weekly meetings, capacity building, program support, and event planning in order to promote club organization and participant involvement. In addition, I mentored two first year female students on a bi-weekly basis to support their transition into college.
Center For Vocation And Career Ambassador
As a Student Ambassador, I advised and mentored over 100 students regarding career exploration and vocational direction through resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile creation and revision. I facilitated industry specific and affinity career discussions on a weekly basis with a group of 10 college students to help them gain career momentum and build skills such as networking to feel prepared in the workforce. I also, connected over 50 students to career and internship resources, such as Handshake and BigInterview, to help them explore and land internships and future jobs.
Summer Program Intern
My internship at Christ for the City International Costa Rica consisted of supporting the organization’s programs through English language, entrepreneurship, and sports classes for women and children. I was able to assist in the implementation of these classes and learn how CFCI’s employees managed their programs. In addition, I completed administrative and accounting work such as collecting and inputting the organization’s receipts and expenses into a spreadsheet for tax purposes. I was able to gain hands-on experience working in lower-income communities with individuals and to learn best practices for community development.
Program Intern
As a Program Intern, I planned events and provided support for World Chicago’s Youth Diplomat’s Program for 100 high school students around the world to teach them about international diplomacy and future careers in the diplomacy realm. I also researched Chicago based organizations in order to provide fellowship placements for over 40 applicants from the Professional Fellows program which facilitates networking between entrepreneurs from the U.S. and other countries.
Campus Outreach/Creative Coordinator
I arranged meetings and on-going communication with community organizations and other campus clubs to maintain relationships for continuous event collaboration. I also recruited 200 students on National End It Day to send emails to their Congress representatives in order to increase government funding to end all forms of human trafficking. Additionally, I spearheaded and developed a one-day event in collaboration with another campus club to raise awareness for gender-based violence in April.
Broadband Summer Intern
As an intern, I conducted research and collected data on the economic impact of broadband for Maine coastal and island communities for the publication of the Island Institute yearly report. In addition, I managed and designed the Maine Broadband Coalition and campaign website by daily updating news articles and adding new events to increase the user base on CRM platforms and constituents willing to support the Vote Yes on 1 Campaign for the Main local state election. I also created a digital literacy resource guide for island and coastal communities in Maine that highlighted local and online resources available which has been viewed by over 100 local community leaders.
Service Coordinator
I organized the Community Service Day in March for the entire Sophomore class to engage with local community organizations and members through various service outreach opportunities. I corresponded with campus clubs and local organizations through regular email and weekly meetings to ensure good relationships and clear communication with Student Government. I also collaborated with fellow Class Council members through weekly meetings to develop new events and formulate creative ways to engage the Sophomore class such as the Canvas Professional Development Series and the Sophomore Class Christmas Party.
Ben Jopplin Memorial Intern
As an intern in the Office of Policy Development and Research, I extracted housing data from the HUD database, resulting in the formation of 20+ policy recommendation reports for HUD’s Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program. I scheduled weekly supervisor meetings and compiled 50+ meeting briefs to ensure office organization and preparation for the Secretary’s daily office meetings. In addition, I created 5 application forms for HUD’s Envision Center initiative which resulted in impoverished U.S. counties and cities able to apply for funding from the interagency program.
