I am currently employed as a Logistics Officer at the Lyttelton Port Company (LPC), the largest Port in the South Island. I am passionate about improving the way we do coordination and logistics, particularly within disasters. Aside from work, I serve in the Red Cross Disaster Welfare and Support Team which is deployed across New Zealand when disasters strike. In 2019 I completed a Master of Philosophy in Defence and Security with Massey University. My research focused on civil-military coordination in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief. In 2016 I completed an Honours Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations, with a BA Double Major in Political Science and Spanish. In my previous employment, I served in the Royal New Zealand Navy as a General List Executive Officer. This job entails being delegated charge of a warship and crew (often 200 personnel) by the Commanding Officer, directing operations, keeping the ship safe navigationally and prioritising tasks to achieve an end mission. These experiences gave me skills such as flexibility, forward-thinking, multi-tasking and leadership skills.During my time in the military, I was awarded a one year exchange within the Royal Canadian Navy, during which I conducted three months of Disaster Relief in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. This experience and my desire to help those in need led me to leave the military to work overseas in the INGO Next Level International, where I analysed and supported grassroots projects in Eastern Europe. These experiences led me to return to New Zealand, where I gained a postgraduate qualification to help improve our region's logistics and coordination efforts.
