I am currently pursuing a medical degree at Johns Hopkins University. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from Rutgers University. I have a passion to serve my community and for the healthcare field, particularly with regard to health care disparities and addressing issues of accessing healthcare in underserved communities. I have volunteered my time at the CCU of the Princeton Hospital taking care of patients. This experience has taught me the importance of compassion in patient care. My responsibilities include visiting patients and talking with their families and providing comfort to them. The experience has strengthened my communication skills, which has enabled me to form better relations with patients that I have come across. My passion for healthcare is further driven by my experience in Panama during a health missions trip, where I saw individuals in the rural community, who lacked access to adequate healthcare. I would love to continue exploring the field of medicine. I have had the opportunity to be involved in population science research at the Cancer institute of New Jersey dealing with data associated with assessing patient access to cancer-related care. On a cellular level, I had the opportunity to do research at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital studying a virus associated with inflammation in patients with Trichomoniasis. These experiences exposed me to the range of fields in medical research and has enhanced my organizational, planning, and technological skills in handling data.My short term goal is to continue to build upon my knowledge and experience in the medical field through more volunteer work and shadowing opportunities. I recognize that the ability to provide quality care to people regardless of their circumstances is important and life-changing and I hope to address this as a future physician.
