Ken Frederick is a creative director with over 18 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams to build brands and create impactful experiences. His sweet spot is the digital space, merging brand and technical acumen to create work that is experientially, aesthetically, and procedurally innovative. At Google, Ken was Head of Creative, Experiences and Brand Design within Google Brand Studio, he built a brand and UX discipline from nothing to a team of 20, led and architected Google’s billion-user brand communications and editorial platform, initiated Google’s first digital guidelines platform uniting product and marketing, led Google’s Web Standards design system, launched Google’s responses to racial injustice and Belonging commitments, led and launched Google’s COVID-19 response, led the rebrand of Alphabet, rebranded and unified Google’s product icons, and established a culture of digital innovation. Most recently he was a UX Lead for Food within Google Search, driving features that were featured at Search On 2022 as well as architecting the 2023+ strategy and vision for Food and Local Search.Ken is also an active proponent of diversity and inclusion. While at Google, he established global web accessibility standards, co-founded a mentorship and networking group for underrepresented designers, and built relationships with HBCUs and smaller universities to address the lack of diversity in design. He was also a guest lecturer at CIID where he taught a future-casting and speculative design course.
