Oversaw feature development and managed server and database administration for the company's SaaS-based on-line learning management systems (LMS). The LMS is used by hospitals, universities, legal services, specialty trades and other industries to provide on-line training within their respective sectors. Identified and implemented GDPR updates. The web-based software is written in PHP and JavaScript using the Phalcon MVC, Foundation 6, Volt, TinyMCE, jQuery, Chosen, SASS, HTML5/ CSS3 and other web development tools accessing a MySQL database. Served as the MySQL database administrator and assisted with all IT related issue, from server setup, maintenance, security and application feature design, implementation and testing. Also managed earlier Moodle-based installations.

Managed an annual operating budget of over $1 million and oversaw an operating staff of 12 full time employees. Turned the company around from a loss of over $60k per month to break even in my first 6 months and posted a 37% financial improvement by the end of my first year. Oversaw the daily operations of a 400-acre, multi-track facility that included over 14 miles of rally, road course, ATV, off-road and karting tracks, tactical firearms training ranges and a drive-in 360-degree firing range. The park offered rally, road racing, ATV and off-road driving training with a shop to manage a fleet of three rally, track day and off-road ATV vehicles. Served as the Managing Director for the company’s International Security Academy military training division which provided driving and tactical shooting training to elite military special forces and law enforcement agencies. Handled community and governmental relationships and developed hiring and labor practices for the company. Managed two web sites and led both print and social media marketing efforts.

Created a 76,000 square foot indoor kart racing center. Responsibilities included development of the business plan, securing financing, negotiating property leases, managing facility build out, hiring and training staff and establishing company payroll and accounting procedures. Installed all IT systems including servers, workstations, point of sale stations, web site and managed all social media and advertising activities. The center operated six days a week and provided kart racing services to both arrive-n-drive and experienced kart racers.

Developed a national endurance racing series that served as a support race series to headlining series including Grand-Am and NASCAR. Developed series rules and secured series sponsorship. Managed a special event at Road Atlanta that celebrated the 25th anniversary of the SCCA Enterprises Spec Racer Ford (SRF) purpose-built sports racing car. The event was the largest gathering of SRF cars to date.

Hired staff, built infrastructure and helped move the facility from construction to operating stage. Developed an operating budget of over $2 million and created an operating staff of 25 full time and 150-part time employees. Assisted in community and governmental relationship building, media events and developed hiring and labor safety practices for the facility. Helped close key sponsorship deals with major corporate partners. The facility opened on time and below projected opening budgets.

Provided operational leadership for the company’s professional road racing series. Developed new race series from concept to profitability. Oversaw scheduling, staffing and budget management. Responsible for event planning and oversight, assisting marketing with development of sponsorship programs, overseeing accounts receivables and payable, and managing four full time staff. Served as the race director for support series. Leveraged my past IT experience to supported operations and event timing computer systems.

Provided management and technical leadership, budget planning, recruiting, team building, employee development, process planning and general accountability for all corporate computer and phone system infrastructure needs to support local exchange carrier (LEC) billing and long-distance provisioning. Managed a three-million-dollar departmental budget with a seven-person technical staff that included an Oracle database administrator, three network administrators, one help desk administrator and two phone network services administrators. Developed network security policies and implemented company-wide backup procedures.

Staffed and managed a team of 19 software developers, two technical writers and one network administrator. The team developed a check scanning and imaging system used by banks and credit unions to scan checks and create image return statements written in Visual C/C++. Responsibilities included recruiting, team building, procedure development, budgeting, and project management. Successfully managed the merger of two software development teams when a competitor’s company was purchased, relocating staff from Minnesota to Birmingham and successfully integrated new and existing team members and tools to create a new unified team.
