Ken has been in the structural engineering field since 1989 and joined Mattson Macdonald Young in 2006 as a Project Engineer. Early in his career, he developed a specialty of light gage framing and curtainwall system design. Beyond the traditional materials engineers find themselves working with; Ken has also designed structures in stainless steel, aluminum, fiberglass, and composite wood-fiberglass materials. He has worked on a variety of project types, including industrial, commercial, residential, medical and institutional. His educational background, as well as his previous experiences at Architectural/Engineering, firms enables him to understand client’s goals beyond simply the structural design. Ken has been involved in many challenging and interesting projects in his career. Since joining MMY, he has been involved with projects ranging from residential additions to renovation of existing buildings to offices. Ken has also recently worked on an expansion to Boutwell’s Landing Assisted Living Facility and the new Woodland Adventure Play Area at the Minnesota Zoo.Specialties: Ken has been actively involved with CASE/Mn for many years, been an active member of the Education Committee and President from 2001 to 2002. He has assisted with the CASE/Mn “Guidelines for Structural Testing and Special Inspection,” Fourth and Fifth Editions. He has presented on Special Inspections and Structural Testing multiple times, to both engineers and building officials.
