I accepted this six month contract to get some time at the agency, to learn how they approach interpretive design and to work with great content. I was given the opportunity to visit all the state fish hatcheries. I toured and evaluated the condition of interpretive signage, wayfinding and other environmental graphics. I reported to the Hatchery Chief and the Statewide Education Coordinator. I developed an outdoor panel about the life of a trout that will be installed statewide. I also created custom-designed panel sets for individual hatcheries. The most prominent will be in Durango, Colorado.

Initial creative at start up specializing in digital presentations from business meetings to live events. Began to expand into websites. Worked on a couple video edit and special effect packages.York Barbell websiteHarley Davidson Parts Supplier Conference 1997 Live event.The Harley show incorporated back-lit projectors in 4 locations running in synch via a Macintosh and analog switching.The feeds were managed and controlled by a custom Director interface. Special effects for the videos were produced in After Effects and edits done in old-school Adobe Premiere. Ah, the good ole days.

Digital video graphics studio in Bala Cynwyd, PA. I created storyboarded concepts for and directed 3D projects for corporate and commercial clients. Created broadcast graphics using a Composium paintbox system including spots showcasing the Phillies baseball team and the Philly fanatic and special ballpark promotions on local television stations. Worked with both analog and digital video systems. Helped upgrade DDR and D5 video systems and integrated networking for Macintosh capabilities. :)

This was a company established to manage freelance projects around the south-central Pennsylvania region. My contracts initially were helping advertising agencies and some print-houses to get up to speed with the desktop publishing revolution. I also contracted with agencies for layout in Quark or, ugh, Pagemaker, Photoshop mastery, 3D illustrations (which were published in PC World, etc.) Also, the occasional logo design/branding package. Eventually, I landed a job at RMI Communications out of New Holland, Pa. They were formally the in-house communications team for the Ford New Holland Tractor Co. I assisted in producing meetings and live events for product launches by Ford New Holland. I started storyboarding video productions including broadcast commercials. Having all this in my book got the attention of another VMI contractor. Traces Computer Graphics contracted me to visualize 3D animations for various clients.

While freelancing for VMI my duties were primarily producing slide presentations for their largest client, Ford New Holland. Secondary duties included video graphics, storyboarding, set/prop design for local television commercials. Here I received valuable video editing skills that I would take with me and expand.

After 4 years my duties as service bureau supervisor were to help track projects through our digital prepress processes, troubleshoot prepress files on Mac/PC, efficient workflow through the imaging department making negatives for publications or printers and film positives (slicks) for advertising agencies. This was the dawn of desktop publishing. Also was the lead of digital photo retouch and graphic creation. I learned all I know about prepress including high-end scanners and connecting PC's to imaging equipment.
