Ken is an experienced chair and non-executive director. He has significant experience of working with government and regulators in the oil and chemical sectors. Ken has been a CEO of a listed company and held senior positions within Shell. Ken has skills and experience relevant to high reliability organisations operating in regulated environments where safety is critical. Ken was recently appointed a non executive director of the Health and Safety Executive . Prior to that he chaired the COMAH Strategic Forum and successfully led the tripartite group for the last 8 years since its inception bringing industry and regulators together to identify and address important matters of managing major hazard in the UK. He is a member of the Industry Safety Steering Group (ISSG) monitoring industry’s progress in implementing the Building Regulation and Fire Safety review post Grenfell. He is very knowledgeable in safety and managing major hazards and chaired the industry/regulator task force in the wake of the Buncefield Terminal explosion. He is a founder member of the Business Leaders Health & Safety Forum in New Zealand.Ken is a past President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and helped lead the organisation through a fundamental review of its strategy & governance. He is also a former President of UK Petroleum Industry Association. He lead the Midstream Oil Sector Government & Industry Task Force which considered ways of improving the resilience & viability of UK refining and fuel import sector following the government review in 2014.Ken has a track record of managing change and business turnarounds based on developing a clear strategic direction and building organisational capability.
