The State Trails Council was created by Wisconsin statute 15.347(16) in 1989. The council provides advice and consultation to the Department of Natural Resources on the planning, acquisition, development, and management of trails in Wisconsin.The council represents trail users in Wisconsin, which includes more than half of the state's residents. The council is also responsible for providing counsel in administering Federal Recreational Trails Program funds. The council serves as Wisconsin's state recreational trail advisory committee for Recreational Trails Program, necessary for Wisconsin to participate in the program.The council is an independent forum for finding solutions to trail problems for both motorized and non-motorized groups, and is a statewide advocate for public/private cooperation in funding and management of trail systems. Wisconsin is a national leader in creating partnerships that provide for state ownership coupled with county management of trails.The State Trails Council is composed of (11) voting members appointed by the governor to four-year terms who engage in one or more of the various recreational uses of trails. Non-voting council members are selected to the STC as needed. All council members must be knowledgeable in various recreational uses of trails and serve as an advocate for trails.My role will be to represent all walking, hiking trail users, hiking groups as well as the Ice Age National Scenic / State Scenic Trail and the Wisconsin portion of the North Country National Scenic Trail. I also fulfill the role of Vice Chair of the State Trails Council.The immediate goal for my State Trails Council position is to reach out to walking, hiking trail users and hiking groups across Wisconsin for their input and areas of concern and to encourage them to participate in the future development and management of Wisconsin’s trails.

The Ice Age Trail Alliance is a volunteer and member based non-profit organization, that protects, promotes, builds and maintains the 1,000 mile long footpath – The Ice Age National Scenic Trail or locally known as The Ice Age Trail.Local point of contact of the Waukesha / Milwaukee County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance for the communities and local municipalities of Waukesha County on all matters that involve or have an effect on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Waukesha County.Work in partnership with the communities and local municipalities of Waukesha County on the future development and completion of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Waukesha County.Currently working on a reconstruction plan for the John Muir Loop Trail boardwalks in the Hartland Marsh. This loop trail is a spur trail to the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and is located on lands owned by the Ice Age Trail Alliance. I was one of the volunteers who built this loop trail and boardwalks in the early 1990's.

The Ice Age Trail Alliance (formerly Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation), a volunteer and member based non-profit organization, that protects, promotes, builds and maintains the 1,000 mile long footpath – The Ice Age National Scenic Trail or locally known as The Ice Age Trail. - Volunteer Chapter Chairman from 1994 to 2008.- Oversaw the day to day operations of the volunteer based Waukesha / Milwaukee County Chapter.- Developed organizational By-Laws by which the Waukesha / Milwaukee County Chapter was governed.- Planned a continuous 50 mile trail route of the Waukesha County portion of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.- Partnered with the Ice Age Trail Alliance office on trail development and trail planning.- Partnered with the National Park Service and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on trail construction standards and trail funding.- Partnered with the Waukesha County Department of Parks and Land Use on land purchases by the county to finalize the trail route in Waukesha County.- Facilitated planning meetings with the volunteers of the Waukesha / Milwaukee County Chapter to discuss trail planning, trail construction, trail maintenance, and fundraising to support the trail.- Developed trail maintenance and construction guide lines.- Designed trail structures such as boardwalks and bridges.- Planned and lead trail construction projects.- Trained volunteers on trail construction and maintenance methods.- Purchased trail maintenance equipment and established an equipment inventory procedure.- Facilitated meetings with local property owners to discuss land easements for the trail.- Facilitated meetings with the City of Delafield and the Village of Hartland to discuss trail easement needs in future developments within these municipalities.- Participated in the maintenance of over (45) miles of the Ice Age Trail within Waukesha County. - Mentored by the late Congressman Henry S. Reuss - “Father of the Ice Age Trail".

The Waukesha Area Symphonic Band (WASB) is an ensemble of volunteer musicians dedicated to enriching the community's cultural life through the performances of outstanding wind music at the highest artistic level. WASB's total performing membership varies from 50 to 60 musicians.I am one of three euphonium players in WASB and have been playing the euphonium for over 45 years. Described simply; a Euphonium looks like a small tuba with a very mellow, melodic tenor-voiced sound.
