Assigned to develop a local fabrication supply base for new manufacturing facilities in the southern US. The new supply base is on track to meet stringent performance requirements for quality and on time deliveries. Decreased supply base by 50%+ for the 2 largest facilities in the region.  Saved $1M in piece parts and an additional $400K savings in freight by moving parts closer to the facility.

Selected based on purchasing expertise to assume critical 2-year special assignment to remedy material availability issues and streamline fabrications supply base for manufacturing in Peterlee, UK. Defined and executed a plan to reduce the supply base and source parts in families, yielding a significant drop in the number of suppliers. Simultaneously maintained current role, managing a team of procurement professionals developing a world-class supply base capable of meeting business requirements for Light Fabrications (9mm and less). Collaborated with Product Engineering teams in developing a global sourcing strategy for supplier selection, qualification, and management. Assured supply availability and attainment of cost productivity, delivery, quality, and lead-time goals. Reduced supply base at the UK facility to 10 core suppliers while maintaining quality and material availability goals. Partnered with core UK supplier to remedy shipping performance issues. Increased performance from 25% on time to >95%. Consultative expertise secured supplier’s position as the largest supplier to the Peterlee facility. Realized a 7% increase (85% to 92%) in overall shipping performance during a period of high growth in the business cycle. Produced a 2% year-over-year cost savings for 4 consecutive years. Defined and executed a plan to reduce supply base to 50 core suppliers, by sourcing parts to synergize and align processes.

Oversaw 13 supervisors managing deliverables of 350+ hourly employees throughout a fast-paced engine assembly process. Boosted engine assembly line output from 150 engines per shift to approximately 225 per shift and improved throughput of the repair floor by 150% through the identification of bottlenecks and execution of process improvements.

Directed a team of Logistics Analysts in material planning, material flow, timely shipment of outbound materials and delivery of inbound materials. Continuously monitored and analyzed supplier performance for optimal delivery performance and capacity planning. Selected new suppliers to support cost containment and/or quality improvement. Delivered a 10% improvement in parts availability by enhancing records administration to more closely monitor supplier shipping performance.

Managed procurement for the Rough & Machined Casting / Forging team. Negotiated competitive pricing and contractual agreements with suppliers and monitored quality, schedule, and performance standards. Improved throughput of castings and increased shipping performance from 30% to 85%  Achieved a 2.5% overall cost reduction in part through lot-sizing and lead-time standardization.

In charge of test material procurement for New Product Introduction for a large bulldozer program. Partnered with engineering and suppliers to define fit, form, and function requirements while making certain materials were high quality and priced competitively. Contributed to manufacturing price reduction from $437 to $42 for the D-10 ATAAC air seal by collaborating with engineering on the most cost effective way to meet the fit, form, and function requirements.

I was responsible for making sure all orders were shipped on time, I was also responsible for releasing the new orders to the plant for processing, so that they could be processed in time for the required ship date.In my time at O'Brien Steel I improved the lead-time through the shop from 6 weeks to 1 week and improved shipping costs by more than 10%.
