As Lead Scientist on the $200 million Next Generation Diagnostic System (NGDS) contract at BioFire Defense, I led all R&D efforts to develop the Sentinel v2.0 project through launch. I directed all facets of assay design, qPCR evaluation, experimental protocol preparation, sample prep feasibility testing, inclusivity/exclusivity, analytical sensitivity, and verification. The Sentinel v2.0 panel was successfully launched in June 2019. I provided input on material procurement, budgets, timeline, and I served as the chief scientific liaison on the project for weekly phone calls with the Joint Program Management Office at the Dept of Defense.Prior to this I worked as a Manufacturing Support Scientist, where my Template Control group interfaced daily with Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D, and supported all Legacy and Developmental products. We made key contributions to the successful launches of the Gene-Up platform and NGDS Sentinel v1.0 panel, as well as the FDA clearance of NGDS Warrior panel for use with an additional test matrix. I also developed, industrialized, and patented new melt-shifted, deeply multiplexed External Control Materials for FilmArray, which are used for the IVD Global Fever Panel and for the Mycoplasma panel that is targeted at Pharma and Cell & Gene Therapy customers.

I worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the lab of Janis J. Weis at the University of Utah Department of Pathology.From my postdoctoral training I have extensive experience with Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi), animal models of Lyme and rheumatoid arthritis, mammalian genetics, genetic variant classification and validation, transgenics, lysosomal trafficking, enzyme kinetics, pharmaceutical testing, SNP genotyping, forward genetic screens, congenic lines, and scientific writing (grants and manuscripts).

As the Owner and Founder of BioFacility LLC I handled business operations for Country Lane Assisted Living in Brigham City, Utah. Country Lane is a Utah state accredited Assisted Living facility, providing 24-hour Type 1 and Type 2 care to up to 30 residents. With annual revenues of approximately $500k, my staff of 20+ employees included an on-site administrator, Certified Nurse Assistants, cooks, and maintenance personnel. I managed all customer accounts, made personnel decisions, set marketing budgets, provided IT support, and handled all business accounting and tax documentation. During this time we successfully converted our temporary operating license to a standard permanent license and dramatically reduced the number of state audit deficiency findings at both buildings. In September 2012 I sold the business to a local company owned by a Geriatrician providing in-home health care to seniors in the Brigham City area.

In addition, I routinely worked in a BSL3 Barrier facility, in which our genetically modified inbred mouse strains were housed.
