I am the curator of international art at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Aotearoa New Zealand. Co-curator with Susan Behrends Frank of the internationally acclaimed PICASSO: PAINTING THE BLUE PERIOD (co-organized by The Phillips Collection and the Art Gallery of Ontario), I have mounted exhibitions on a range of modern artists, including Anthony Caro (organized by Art Gallery of Ontario), Vilhelm Hammershøi (organized by the Statens Museum for Kunst), Joan Mitchell and Jean Paul Riopelle (organized by Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec), and Andy Warhol (co-organzied by Tate and Museum Ludwig). My collaborative, interdisciplinary research in the emerging field of technical art history has been published in SN APPLIED SCIENCES, and my curatorial work and scholarship in the field of modern art have been lauded by art critics and journalists of major international magazines and newspapers such as THE ART NEWSPAPER, AUSTRALIAN FINANCIAL REVIEW, THE GLOBE AND MAIL, THE GUARDIAN, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, THE NEW YORK TIMES, SCIENCE, SMITHSONIAN MAGAZINE, SUEDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG, TIMES LITERARY SUPPLEMENT, and LA VANGUARDIA. In 2022, PICASSO: PAINTING THE BLUE PERIOD was named the third-best exhibition in the world by THE WASHINGTON POST and a top-ten international exhibition by THE WALL STREET JOURNAL.Current research projects include co-editing a catalogue of 50 international modern highlights from the collection of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, penning scholarly entries on 3 works by Henri Matisse and Edouard Vuillard for The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art's French paintings catalogue, writing 14 entries on important examples of mid-to-late-twentieth-century art for a collection catalogue published by Joslyn Art Museum, and contributing an essay to the catalogue of an upcoming exhibition on the New Zealand painter Gretchen Albrecht at Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery. My most recent exhibition, THE ROBERTSON GIFT: PATHS THROUGH MODERNITY, is a large permanent collection display with international loans showcasing Josie and Julian Robertson’s 2023 gift of 15 late-nineteenth- and early-to-mid-twentieth-century European modernist masterworks to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
