Internationally-recognized leader with decades of experience in teaching, leadership and innovative roles in notable medical programs around the world. Co-Founder of Moderna Therapeutics, and discovered, designed, and developed the FTIH mRNA therapeutic (2019) (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41573-021-00355-6 ), VEGF mRNA, in a joint collaboration between his lab, Moderna, and AZ. The work helped to create the infrastructure and platform that lead to the pioneering of a new generation of transformative medicines for patients, most notably the production of mRNA-1273, a vaccine candidate against COVID-19. Continuous advances in basic and applied mRNA science, delivery technology and manufacturing allow for a robust pipeline of therapeutics and vaccines for infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
