CurrentMr. O’Brien has significant experience in the application of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s rules and regulations as well as generally accepted accounting principles, including the investment company guide. In addition he is well versed in income tax basis financial reporting. Mr. O’Brien also oversees fund administration services to real estate opportunity funds.Mr. O’Brien has managed financial statement conversion projects for private companies going though the initial public offering process, and has developed and managed the implementation of accounting and financial reporting systems for publicly traded mortgage real estate investment trusts, real estate equity trusts and real estate investment funds. He oversees the ongoing financial reporting for several publicly traded MREITs and private debt funds. He has extensive experience overseeing the preparation of quarterly and annual public filings for both mortgage and equity real estate investment trusts, advising clients on the accounting treatment for complex transactions, including consolidation of special-purpose entities/variable interest entities, loan securitizations, construction accounting, accounting for debt and equity investments and derivatives and partnership waterfall/promote calculations. In addition, he has provided advice to public companies on financial statement restatements. Mr. O’Brien also acts as the outsourced Chief Accounting Officer and Controller for several clients.
