About Kenneth Looby, P.E.

Who is Kenneth Looby?I am a data-driven professional engineer, experienced in applying mechanical engineering, metallurgy, data analysis, project management as well as written and oral communication to deliver value-added results through directing multi-disciplinary teams in a highly regulated industry. My Industry Experience:In the past I conducted investigations that identified the root cause of defects in a laser drilling process that resulted in $100k of annual material and labor variances in the value stream. Having discovered the root cause, I provided actionable recommendations for process improvements. In another situation, I investigated defects in the mechanical properties of stainless steel and after corrections based on the investigation were implemented at our overseas vendor, I analyzed mechanical test data and then communicated to the senior quality engineer that $70k of stainless steel from the vendor met our acceptance criteria. My analysis empowered the senior management to resume international shipments of our products. In another role, I optimized drawings of legacy products for manufacturability. Also, I developed assembly and testing procedures while training assemblers and senior engineers in these methods. My leadership in implementing these changes resulted in faster assembly/testing throughput and improved the quality of the initial international shipments of $4M worth of product, resulting in a better relationship with the executive leadership of our customer. My Research:For my Mechanical Engineering Ph.D., I am contributing to the development of next generation aerospace alloys for sustainable aviation by comparing an additively manufactured High Entropy Alloy (HEA) with novel and conventional nickel superalloys for use within jet engines. Using advanced material characterization techniques (EDS, EBSD, SEM-Fractography, TEM and XRD) as well as high temperature mechanical testing (tensile & fatigue); I can understand the influence of microstructures on mechanical properties relevant for materials in extreme environments. How I can add value to your team:As a mechanical engineer I possess a solid background in machine design, manufacturing, materials science and mechanical testing. If you're seeking an experienced professional engineer that will provide technical leadership in alignment with engineering strategy at the cutting edge of mechanical engineering and materials science, feel free to reach out.Expertise: Mechanical Engineering | Manufacturing | Materials Science | Research & Development | Statistics
