I work from my home and travel extensively for this role. Uptime Solutions is all about keeping our customers presses running at optimum speeds. It works off the principle that what makes our customers successful, also makes us successful. The job involves project management and best practices facility audits. My team owns the business transition process, site audit process, and account tech management. We develop, maintain, and improve these processes by owning the infrastructure.We have a very developed and tested business transition process to ensure that switching to Flint is as seamless as possible. I am the project manager for transitions and work through the local leads.We also provide a value added service in the form of best practice audits in which we audit a facility for best practices, examine their metrics and quantify savings. Based off the results, we give the choice of becoming project managers for any of the audit projects that the customer would like to address. This role involves me going into all sorts of printing facilities that use various processes and working through with their team all the way to project completion and savings based improvements.

The lab that I previously worked at was closed. With the consolidation of the efforts came a great deal of centralization of job duties. I began to work from my home in a new position where certain personnel were referred to as specialist in a given area. As a specialist, we would travel extensively across North American for two purposes: 1. special projects, 2. supporting the product managers.The special projects would consist of work towards root cause on high profile projects or long standing problems. In this role, we would work with local personnel to organize efforts to collect data towards root cause.The appropriate product manager, in my case water based products, would send us on high profile trials, work with us on gathering market or competitor information, and have me do research for product consolidation internally.

The Great Recession caused a drastic change in the industry. The large manufacturing site that I was working at was closed and consolidation happened industry wide. I was moved to a lab facility with four direct reports. My time was split between doing projects for the PDL lab and managing the work of the other techs that ranged from visiting various customers to supplying graphics support in a large volume, centralized capacity for multi-site customers.

I ran a lab at a large manufacturing plant with six direct reports. We QC'd materials as well as formulated various flexo and gravure water based inks and overprints. The breadth of applications that we addressed was very large and included something from nearly every market segment.We were able to meet with and vendors directly and negotiate pricing for materials that we were interested in as the cost of formulation was always important. This was before roles such as this were centralized.

During this time, I spent a lot of time with Miller Brewing, Anheuser-Busch, and Coca Cola North America, as well as many printers, helping develop color control programs. I traveled with separators and CPC's to printers across flexo, gravure, and sheetfed print processes to examine the color and visual impact of various designs. I'd follow the graphics from the design phase through the separation process and get to see the end result on each printing process at various printing locations. The end result were color programs for CDC's and printers that kept color consistent but also considered the entire process.

This facility changed names from Theile / Convertors to ICI Specialty Inks to Zeneca Specialty Inks. It was a small plant that only supplied one large customer in the beginning. It was a C Type, gravure solvent facility. When I started, they were just making the switch over from solvent to water based inks. We eventually changed completely to solvent and began doing flexo work as well.
