Laboratory Assignments

All blooding banking duties including QC, maintenance, cross matching, antibody ID, and issuing of compatible blood, plasma, and platelets.

Under general supervision, performs complex analyses on a variety of sample types. Maintains proper records and utilizes independent judgement to generate acceptable test results. Responsible for quality, efficiency and safety in the performance of laboratory functions. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. Independently troubleshoots and resolves problems and documents corrective actions. Assists with development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities when appropriate. Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:Performs order entry, phlebotomies, and collects other specimens such as urine drug screens when necessaryPerforms laboratory testing in all areas of the laboratory to include Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Coagulation, Immunohematology, Microbiology, and ChemistryPerforms routine maintenance tasks as designated for laboratory analyzers in all areas of the clinical laboratoryPerforms calibrations and quality control when required and is responsible for verifying the integrity of such testingTroubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessaryPerforms proficiency testing and linearity testing as assigned to maintain accrediting body complianceAssists in keeping policy and procedure manuals up to dateAssists in keeping supplies at adequate levels by completing weekly departmental inventoriesParticipates in hospital wide and departmental performance improvement activitiesRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals in a constructive and professional manner.
