As the System Safety Electrical Mechanical/Structural Coordinator, I am responsible for overseeing the processes and procedures used by MARTA Contractors to ensure that project safety plans and contracts are followed. My role involves creating and enacting policies and procedures that support MARTA in Capital and operational construction safety compliance. I also monitor and ensure safe work practices and environments on all construction sites at MARTA properties. Additionally, I am responsible for implementing and managing a comprehensive electrical, mechanical, and structural safety program for MARTA. This includes conducting safety audits by applying knowledge of mechanics and electrical distribution concepts to preemptively address safety problems as they arise throughout operations and maintenance activities. I also inspect infrastructure, electrical and mechanical safety activities and operational and infrastructure support systems. This involves proactive information gathering and evaluation tasks such as track, signals and power distribution, infrastructure audits, and safety data trend analysis, as well as investigatory actions related to accidents, hazards, and other safety-critical occurrences.

Served as the subject matter expert for various electrical maintenance projects, including circuit analysis, grounding systems, over-current protection, testing, and analysis of equipment, structures, and rail systems. Provided technical and analytical support within the Electrical Power & Equipment Branch for redesigns, retrofits, or rebuilds. Provided support for system contracts to ensure design, manufacture, installation, testing, and/or modification was in full compliance with contractual requirements, approved drawings, and relocated codes and standards to produce and maintain a safe, reliable rapid transit system. Coordinated and performed field testing and condition monitoring activities with the Rail Control Center to status equipment and enhance MARTA’s electrical system. Evaluated drawings and specifications and monitored construction and equipment installations for new and existing rail and facility expansions, additions, and retrofits. Ensures drawings and specifications conform to Marta’s design criteria, the latest codes, and industry standards.

Coordinated and operated in a supervisory capacity for Electrical Power & Equipment activities while assisting with planning and prioritizing EP&E work activities. Inspected quality control and documented the condition of all electrical equipment and installations throughout the authority, including Rail Stations, Traction Power Substations, Intermediate Substations, Auxiliary Rooms, Parking Lots, Park & Ride Lots, and Tunnels. Improved maintenance processes using OSHA standards to prevent safety and electrical hazards and developed loc-out/tag-out procedures. Ensured compliance with specifications outlined in contracts during the implementation and new construction. Maintained and updated transit system electrical prints, schematics, and system-wide operation manuals

I repaired and maintained electrical assemblies and components required to supply electrical power to the rail system and MARTA facilities, including large AC/DC power systems. My responsibilities included performing electrical diagnosis and electrical repair of Electrical Power & Equipment and repairing and maintaining electrical power supply systems, such as transformers, auxiliary switchgear equipment, UPS, and Traction Power Equipment. I read and interpreted electrical schematics and prints to effectively repair and maintain assemblies and components, including motors, transformers, resistors, capacitors, coils, filters, and relays. Utilizing equipment from a complete electrical repair unit—such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, frequency meters, frequency counters, and oscilloscopes—I ensured the repair of electrical equipment to extend its operating life and reduce operational costs for the Authority. Additionally, I facilitated and documented annual inspections of all Traction and Auxiliary Power Rooms, updating and replacing electrical logbooks and drawings as determined through these inspections.

I scheduled preventative maintenance for electrical systems by assessing their operational life and prioritizing tasks. I performed efficient resource utilization to minimize schedule delays and maximize resource use during maintenance activities. I managed preventive maintenance for the electrical systems of a cargo fleet and attacked military aircraft, ensuring safety compliance in inspections and testing. This included AC and DC power distribution systems, landing gear, lighting systems, air-conditioning and air pressurization systems, oxygen systems, and ejection seat systems. Additionally, I oversaw the preventive maintenance of liquid oxygen tanks and the storage of liquid oxygen, adhering to military safety and regulatory standards. My responsibilities also included managing document updates and changes in technical operation manuals, supervising the disposal and collection of hazardous waste, and cleaning hazardous waste materials for reuse in maintenance work.
