As a sub-team leader of 6 colleagues focused on communication systems, I am responsible for leading the team to manage all Microsoft Windows servers and applications maintained by the Information Technology Services (ITS) of the University of Hong Kong, including Microsoft Exchange 2013, Exchange 2019, SharePoint 2016, and Microsoft 365 cloud environment. The team is also responsible for the deployment and maintenance of telephone service in the University with 9,000 lines (of which 6000 lines are IP phones) as well as video conferencing systems and paperless meeting systems. I am responsible for the tendering process for acquiring new equipment and services. I, and my team, are the 2nd line support of all the systems under our management, providing all kinds of user support from simple usage enquiry to carrying out troubleshooting on issues related to servers and network.I also served as a Project Manager under the ITS Project Management Office since its inception in 2019 and as the vice-chairman of the IT Technology Advisory Group, providing technical consultancy to other internal teams of the ITS department.

As an IT Manager, I was responsible for managing projects in the Information Technology Services regarding new system implementations, system upgrades, new service development, and service enhancement. Projects that I have managed include email systems, web servers, and SAN storage upgrades. I also led an email outsourcing project which successfully migrated more than 20000 students and graduates email accounts from on-premises email systems to Google Workspace for Education in 2010. Other job duties include:1. Perform system administration tasks on over 100 computer systems in the Information Technology Services running Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Windows 2003, and Windows 2008.2. Manage applications including the University’s web servers, E-mail systems (open source sendmail and Exchange 2007), DNS servers, LDAP servers, and Oracle Database.3. Manage cluster servers including VCS, MC/SG, HACMP, and Microsoft Cluster.4. Manage a cloud infrastructure running VMWare.5. Manage SAN storage infrastructure built from HP EVA and HP XP10000 SAN storage systems.6. Manage the University’s HP Data Protector backup infrastructure.7. Manage the University’s Internet firewall system, including the design of firewall policy.8. Provide user support and consultation services on PC software, UNIX applications, user accounts, e-mails, firewall, web servers and proxy servers.9. Provide front-line support to our users including staff, students, and graduates on e-mails, Desktop PC, applications, computer viruses, and Network connectivity problems.10. Serve as second-line support on systems under my management including email systems and web servers.

Leading a team of 9 members in the Airport section of Cable & Wireless HKT, responsible for maintaining the Flight Information Display System, Airport Information Database system, and the airport backbone data network. I was also involved in the implementation of the data network expansion project for the airport’s new Northwest concourse in 1999 as a team member.

As a trainee engineer at Cable & Wireless HKT, I was responsible for:1. Design and develop automated systems for service order processing using Oracle database, PL/SQL programming, and Microsoft Visual Foxpro.2. Provide technical support to operation staff on in-house software systems.3. Preparation of documents including user manuals, requirement specifications, design specifications, system specifications, and test plans.4. Perform troubleshooting on in-house software systems and initiate appropriate corrective actions.5. Perform continuous monitoring of the performance of the software systems and initiate appropriate preventive and corrective actions.6. Collect user requirements and carry out integration and user acceptance test.
