Backend engineer with a focus on scalability, clean architecture, and designing for failure. Deep experience in the finance / FinTech space especially around API integrations, payment processing and trading / risk systems.Some of my specialties are: getting technical alignment across multiple engineering teams; re-factoring or migrating brittle codebases (I did this with live, mission-critical codebases at JPMorgan and Facebook) in a way that transforms them from components that engineers are afraid to touch to simpler designs that newcomers to the codebases can quickly understand and change; and launching new products that are built with simple yet powerful designs, including some where new teams have spun up around them and rapidly became productive.Scalability is about more than how many users or requests a system can handle; processes and engineering culture also need to scale. If it takes 6 months for someone to be productive in your codebase, then your team cannot scale. If a team is hostile to the idea of clean code, eventually you will be spending all of your time firefighting, developers will be afraid to make big changes for fear of breaking something, and you will be unable to innovate as quickly as your business needs. Avoiding these traps is one of my primary interests.
