As the Director of IT Infrastructure Support at The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, I oversee all aspects of IT operations for Houston Metro, one of the largest public transportation systems in the US, serving 18.8 million riders annually.I manage $15M in capital and operating budgets, direct a staff of 29, and drive ongoing improvements to maintain an agile and modern technology framework for the delivery of best-in-class services to the public.     I am fully accountable for driving performance, availability, and reliability of Houston Metro’s IT infrastructure, which includes overseeing a 29-member team, a $5.9M capital budget, and a $7.5M operating budget. I direct support for network, data center, desktop, fiber optics, and video surveillance for 11 major locations, 28 park & ride sites, 1200 buses, and railroad signal house facilities. Our environment includes 2K workstations, 700 mobile devices, 240 miles of fiber cabling, 700+ Cisco devices, 80+ Cisco UCS and Dell PowerEdge servers hosting 800 virtual servers, 2PB+ of EMC storage, and two Cisco voice and call center systems for wired and wireless communications.My key achievements include:♦ Developed vision and led a transition to modern endpoint management using Microsoft Intune and M365. A major focus of this effort was to provide a zero-touch provisioning experience for new smartphones, tablets, and computers.♦ Implemented ZScaler for remote workers during the pandemic to allow employees to work from home with minimal changes to their experience in the office. ♦ Reconfigured VDI environment to utilize floating pools and published applications to improve performance and user experience.♦ Changed from a DR-centric paradigm to a business continuity model to provide better resiliency in case of an emergency or large-scale disaster.♦ Championed early adoption of Cisco’s Software Defined Networking (SDN) with Cisco DNA/ISE installation at the access layer and ACI in the data center.♦ Specified and led the implementation of an ITIL-compliant IT Service Management (ITSM) system.♦ Delivered significant bottom-line savings, including resolving $1M billing dispute with telecom provider in MTA’s favor and eliminating $800K in expenses by disconnecting unused circuits.
