Responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of all Piper aviation products, from customer delivery throughout their service life. Includes both current production and out-of-production models.Prepare Preliminary Risk Assessments using guidance from the FAA Small Aircraft Risk Assessment (SARA) handbook.Develop engineering solutions to aging aircraft issues, such as corrosion and metal fatigue. Corrective actions to include mandatory requirements for repairs, modifications, maintenance and/or inspections. Draft service publications to communicate these corrective actions to owner/operators.Provide technical support to the Piper’s Air Safety department, the NTSB, FAA and other foreign civil aviation authorities.

Technical and managerial leadership over a team of 5 engineers, providing engineering support to the estimated 120,000 Piper aircraft in service. Investigate root cause, define and implement corrective action for field service issues, including the following components/systems: cabin pressurization, flight control, autopilot, lift detector transducer, fuel servos, hydraulics & landing gear. Prepare and deliver Engineering Design Reviews and other presentations to dealers and upper management. Author legal and technical documents in response to inquiries from the FAA, the NTSB and foreign governments. Writer of most Service Publications since 2004, available for viewing on Piper’s web site www.piper.com/company/publications.aspRedesigned the lower entry door mechanism on the PA46 series aircraft to improve service life, addressing one of the top 5 customer concerns for 2005.

Mechanical Engineering support to CGISS division, manufacturer of hand-held and mobile communication equipment for use by military and law enforcement customers.Define and execute environmental test procedures per MIL-STD-810, and analyze results. Communicate findings and recommendations in written and verbal forms. Identify and implement changes to design and manufacturing processes to achieve specifications for electromechanical durability, EMI, vibration, heat flow and thermal expansion. As part of a 3-member team, developed and implemented process changes, resulting in annual savings in excess of 7 million dollars.

Design of specialized components and airframe structure modifications for the 747 Presidential Aircraft. Extensive on-site support to assist with mechanical systems interface issues.Performed Human Factors evaluations on flight crew systems. Designed a mission-critical computer rack, achieving rigorous requirements for reliability, accessibility, cooling, and vibration isolation.

Design of mechanisms and structure for aircraft seats. Assisted with optimizing and refining the precision mechanisms that allow seats to track fore and aft, recline, swivel, and move inboard/outboard, while maintaining the stringent requirements of reliability and crash worthiness. Provided engineering support to define test configurations, and analyze resultant data. Designed the first passenger seat in the aircraft industry to meet the General Aviation Safety Panel standard for occupant survivability.
