As the Lead for Verve’s fledgling Systems Support group, I'll be providing post-deployment operational support to clients to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the Verve software stack.I'll also be responsible for delivering “Verve Certified” training to new members of the Operations group, ensuring that our analysts are familiar with the challenges and peculiarities that can crop up in OT network environments.

As a Team Lead for Verve’s Operations group, I'll still had the opportunity to “get my hands dirty”, working directly with clients to deploy the Verve software stack, and aiding them in its use for network asset discovery. But I was also responsible for introducing new members of the Operations group to Verve’s software, and to the intricacies of working in the OT space as well.

Running a Scout group can be a lot like running a small business. I've been volunteering as a Scouter with the 59th Edmonton for over a decade now, and have spent the last few years establishing and maintaining the group's online presence, including their social media accounts, website, and Google Workspace instance. As of 2024, this presence has expanded to include Google Classroom, which the group uses to give its youth members a supervised space in which to collaborate when planning events and camps, and to submit updates on their badge-earning progress.

Podcasting presents a number of fun technical challenges; recording and editing audio (to create "talk format" podcast episodes with intro & outtro music) seems straightforward, but sometimes requires a lot of finessing and rearranging of sound clips. Coordinating recordings with guests from across North America (and the world) presents an additional challenge, but it has been nothing but enjoyable collaborating with different people to create episode content.

Online (Formerly Ultima Aiera)

My "little website that could", which grew from a humble repository of patches and updates for the old Ultima games into a full-fledged news site, discussion forum, and technical resource used by Ultima fans and game developers alike. I even had the privilege of working with the good folks at GOG.com to support the re-release of select titles from the Ultima series, in addition to other titles from the Origin Systems back catalogue.

As a Cyber Security Generalist with Honeywell Process Solutions, I worked with clients to identify and remediate gaps between their current cyber security posture and readiness and any applicable cyber security standards (e.g. NERC CIP, NIST, ISA/IEC-62443 [formerly ISA-99]) they either desire to - or are required to - comply with. I also supported the rest of the Industrial Cyber Security team by developing and improving data collection and analysis tools that support the work we performed for clients.

Working with the SCADA group at Inter Pipeline, I developed screens and interfaces - often heavily scripted - to expand, improve, and support a Schneider Electric/Telvent OASyS SCADA system. However, I was also brought on board because of my cyber security experience, and so took on additional tasks such as Active Directory administration, network design and implementation, and maintaining backups of a fleet of SCADA workstations and servers. And I also took part in the greenfield cyber security initiative at the company, as a champion for the interests and security needs of the SCADA/OT environment.

In my first stint with Honeywell's Industrial Cyber Security group, I both led and participated in project teams which conducted cyber security vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, risk assessments, and network audits for clients. I also developed various scripts and tools to assist in the collection and analysis of cyber vulnerability data from client computer systems.
