“Freedom from Family Dysfunction: A Guide for Families Battling Addiction or Mental Illness” will be available November 2019 from Rowman & Littlefield publishers.The Family Recovery Institute, at 1800 Lincoln Ave in San Rafael, California (Marin County) was founded in 2008 to serve individuals and families experiencing complex emotional disorders including substance abuse or addiction. The Institute’s staff of four licensed clinicians employ family systems, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, CBT, DBT and spiritual approaches. Dr Perlmutter developed the theoretical model of "Stress-Induced Impaired Coping" (SIIC) along with a companion recovery program to provide clients freedom from the cycles of loss, illness, and repetition in which they have been captured. His new book lays out the model, illustrates family system woundedness and its inter-generational transmission of misery. He then demonstrates easy to follow steps to attain individual and systemic recovery. Two core concepts drive the work: 1) Any single member can institute a change process to drive the system toward wellness; and, 2) Small shifts will foster big changes.Specialties: Individual and family psychotherapy, multi-family healing workshops, family intensives, multi-disciplinary team based solutions for troubled teens, stuck young adults, their siblings and oft powerless parents.
