Sands Engineering was started over ten years ago, and has been a great experience. When I started, I was not familiar with the complexity of running my own business. Through some trial and error, tons of reading, and some help from friends and former associates, I figured out what to do. As the sole proprietor, I have to do the day to day administrative duties, as well as the design work.Projects that I have worked on include: residential house plans, residential structural repair details, light commercial site work, tenant finish, surface mining permitting, foundation inspection and design, and residential bridge design. I am also registered with a number of jurisdictions as a Private Provider for Building Code Inspections and Plan Reviews.Administrative tasks include: billing, marketing, social media, file maintenance, and client correspondence.

Provide system design and cost estimates for security, access control, cctv, fire alarm, and parking access revenue control projects. CAD drawings are completed for required projects. These drawings can be simple general equipment diagrams, or as complex as complete point to point wiring diagrams for individual access control panels. Parking system plans usually consist of a preliminary schematic drawing to include with the bid package, and final as-built drawings showing all wiring details and equipment locations.

During my time here, I worked on a multitude of projects. These projects ranged from small zone change projects, to new surface mining permits, to small commercial and residential subdivisions. Some of the other projects I worked on were water main replacement projects and sanitary sewer lift station eliminations. Not only was I involved in the design aspect of the projects, but on a few occasions I worked on the field surveying as well.

This was the company I started with following graduating college. I by far had the most varied experiences while working here. Starting out hand drafting with ink on mylar, to fully computerising and networking the office, the skills and technology I learned grew tremendously. I worked on all aspects of civil engineering projects (field to finish), some architectural projects, and some mechanical and electrical projects.
