Through drafting I gain knowledge of building and regulatory codes regarding design and calculations. My main duties were mechanical but also did electrical, fire protection and electrical drawings for permit on building renovations.

I was hired as a engineering graduate to provide some technical knowledge to a small water bottling company that mainly serviced gyms and restaurants. I had a lot of self learning to do but I was capable of taking on the challenge. Through my research I found things that can be improved in production and found solutions in which they could be implemented. I worked on introducing upgrades to the production facility, liaising with suppliers and technicians for purchase and installation machines on a fast moving timeline.

I was always determined to find work right after graduation no what what it was. I worked part-time here until I was able to find a position related to my field. This turned out to be quite difficult as the pandemic hit. Although it was not a glamorous job, I learned a lot about dealing with stressful and fast-paced work. I became an effective member of the team that could do anything the manager needed.

Worked under guidance Dr. Fengfeng (Jeff) Xi and partnered with one of his PHD students on a project to create an automated polishing program. I contributed test results to a research paper about contact area changes during polishing due to the force applied by the tool head. This was through a finite element simulation of a typical polishing path on a thin curved panel. My other project was supporting the development of Polish CAM which included testing the program and help solving errors. My undergraduate thesis: Redesign of Polish CAM Algorithm proposed an alternate path planning method which provided a solution to the problem of normal vector errors in the program.

I joined RAD at the beginning of second year to learn about designing and building RC aircraft. I started off as a mentee, learning from upper years; things from CAD modeling, basic aerodynamics and manufacturing. My first task was building an empennage in both CATIA and real life. In third year, I had a larger design role in analyzing airfoils and designing loading mounts. My final year I became the mentor as the structures lead, I helped manage the team and taught the new members. I used a finite element model to help design the wing which was an unconventional design of a thin molded carbon fiber piece.

My first job, I worked as a waiter which helped me enhance my transferable skills. I interacted with customers and improved my communication skills as the people who entered the store were of various cultures. It helped me with improving my Cantonese which I am not fluent at but can hold basic a conversation. I learned to multitask my daily routines and other things asked of me. It vastly improved my ability in customer relations as I was the one dealing with customer concerns.
