I founded and led Halyard Brewing Company, an innovative beverage company with distribution in 10 states and business with major US retailers including Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, Hannaford, Publix, and Wegmans. I received notable press from The Boston Globe, Seven Days, Forbes, Men's Journal, and others. I managed all aspects of the business from product development to sales and marketing, private equity, and financing. As a scholar, I am a member of the faculty at the University of Vermont, where I teach courses in environmental and religious studies. I was a Mellon Fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I received my PhD in Religion and Culture. My academic interests are in cultural theory, environmental activism, critiques of capitalism, and the philosophy of nature. I have presented my academic writing nationally and internationally, have received numerous grants for my research, and am working on an academic manuscript that examines the entanglement between land, religion, and indigeneity in US Federal Indian Law. I am a lifelong waterman with a passion for surfing, sailing, and fly fishing. I love to cook, read, and garden, and I am almost always working on a ferment project at home, from sourdough and kimchi to cider or pickles. A fourth-generation Floridian, I currently live in Vermont with my wonderful wife Nicole and my crazy and beautiful children, Eli and Nya.
