Director of Process and Automation Engineering team within the Manufacturing Technology & Transfer Dept. Leader of a team of 80+ engineers from multiple disciplines tasked with the development, launch, stabilization, continuous improvement and transfer of novel processes and automation infrastructure required for production of array and NGS sequencing consumables.

Leader of a department of 30+ scientists, engineers and managers responsible for new product introductions of consumable products for NGS sequencing platforms. Accountable for all aspects of the team including hiring, project resourcing, budgeting and strategy together with team growth, development, and effectiveness.This team is required to combine various engineering and scientific disciplines including, biochemistry, chemistry, electronic engineering, materials science, metrology, etc to understand and solve complex inter-related issues relating to safety, quality, product performance and robustness to ensure that world class innovative consumable products required for the industry leading sequencing instruments are manufacturable in a highly effective and efficient manner.This role interfaces with many different groups and teams throughout the organization in addition to external contract manufacturers and requires a highly developed interpersonal network together with the ability to bring clarity to areas of ambiguity to ensure that products are launched on schedule at the performance levels required and continue to demonstrate that capability as they move into high volume production.

Leader of a team of experienced process engineers within the consumables Product Development and Transfer organization. I am responsible for leading the team who coordinate and execute new product introductions (NPI) of consumables used in conjunction with our, industry leading, genomic sequencing equipment.The team's role is to drive and ensure smoothly and rapidly drive the product development process from the development phase to pilot and scale-up phases and on through product launch. The team is responsible for various aspects including design transfer, operational readiness, process characterization, and product/process qualification activities amongst others.

Leader of a group of 10-15 Senior Process Engineers who are responsible for the sustaining, ramp and transfer of various semiconductor process technologies in a 300mm wafer Fab environment. Led teams in various semiconductor processing fields including Wet Etch, Dry Etch, Electroplating and Lithography. Drove rapid continuous improvement of safety, quality, yield, reliability, cost, process stability/capability and productivity within these teams through the development of various skills including model based problem solving, lean manufacturing, statistical process control and project roadmap development. Within project roadmap development and execution aspects of this role, I have been responsible for capacity development modelling, capital budgeting, equipment evaluation and selection and forecasting based on projected needs to allow accurate integration with process and product development requirements.Responsible for all aspects of team recruitment, development and continuous performance evaluation and career development.Also performed leadership roles at a factory wide level for safety programs, manager and leadership development and mentoring and coaching of managers and senior engineers.

As a senior lithographic process engineer I was responsible for a fleet of lithography tools within a high-volume manufacturing facility. Focus areas in this role were in lithography track toolsets. Drove the tool availability to best in class performance levels through the development of improved high performance maintenance methods. Owned and addressed numerous production issues and continuous improvements by utilisation of model based problem solving and lean manufacturing improvement methodologies. Supported process transfer activities from developments sites while in this role.

Transferred from Ireland to New Mexico to support the role of Manufacturing Shift Group Leader in support of factory production ramping. Assumed ownership of a team of 28 manufacturing technicians which were underperforming their skill level and regenerated this team. Lead this team through a reorganization and conducted a number of team development activities to increase the overall team capability and performance to goal. Managed to achieve a major increase in both performance and accountability within the team while still being able to improve employee satisfaction as demonstrated by strong improvement manager feedback systems.Demonstrated leadership of cross shift manufacturing team and helped integrate the leadership team through site transition activities and integration of personnel from other areas.Responsible for weekly strategic and tactical production planning and manufacturing floor execution to plan together with monitoring and prioritization of factory product output performance metric.

Owned the transferring of the manufacturing support systems from devleopment site to new "green field"​ site operation. This included spending time immersed in new technology at remote sites for 1 week to 10 month periods to acquire experience and expertise. In this role I was also responsible for all aspects of staffing of the team of 40+ Technicians, Manufacturing Supervisors and for the new location. Successfully drove the execution of initial manufacturing ramp of the new production floor and qualification of the required automated WIP tracking systems and lean manufacturing processes across a 24x7 team.

Responsible for managing and maintaining a team of 20-25 manufacturing technicians within a 200mm semiconductor wafer Sort/Test facility, to achieve factory goals for safety, quality, product output. Responsibilities included: the coordination of people, equipment and facilities to meet line item schedules; creation of technician teams to ensure continuous improvement of safety, quality and productivity; development of team and individual technical abilities and skills and improvement of team working environment.In this role I also supported the manufacturing readiness activities associated with the transfer of a flash process technology which included development of WIP management processes and protocols and associated tools together with the coordination of international training assignments for technicians.

Management of a number of production operators and maintenance personnel in the day-to-day running of a high volume manufacturing pthalocyanine pigment production plant. Responsible for all aspects of people management, safety, output, quality and productivity of the unit. Ownership for production planning, raw material ordering and production line efficiency monitoring within the unit was also undertaken in this role. The achievement of shiftly and weekly goals while maximising the utilization of equipment without compromising safety, product quality while managing tight cost constraints in a “commodity” product environment was the main function of the Shift Manager role. In addition, within this role I acted as unit owner for Health and Safety Executive (HSE) auditing. This involved working closely with site safety management to establish clear documented procedures for all tasks within the unit to mitigate risk of incident, injury or damage to property.

Responsible for the scale-up of experimental lab processes through intermediate "kilo lab" stages to full production trials and extended production. Modification of existing manufacturing processes to allow transfer between production sites with no loss in product quality of process efficiency. Ownership for process improvement projects to increase product throughput, yield and efficiency.

Responsible for laboratory experimental planning, execution and result interpretation in the development of new classical organic pigment products. Worked on the development of new "azo" pigment products by the modification of pigment surface characteristics and crystalline morphology to enhance pigment performance within various media including inks, paints and plastics.
