My research and development position at Jehbco encompasses a wide range of product development, chemical process improvement, quality assurance and compliance based work. Some examples of my completed and on-going projects include:● Developing a blowing agent formula from raw materials to produce a platinum-curing food grade silicone sponge (expanded elastomer) that achieves FDA 21 CFR § 177.2600 compliance● Compounding jet-black (RAL-9005) flame retardant silicone profiles for the construction industry (AS-1530.3) and rail industry (BS 6853, EN-45545 HL3) ● Developing flame retardant platinum-cured silicone sponge achieving UL-94 V0 (2mm) rating● Eliminating the low-level presence of N-Nitrosamines in compounded silicones for extremely sensitive applications (<3 ng/L extraction under specified sample size)● Tightening silicone profile processing to meet drinking water requirements for AS-4020 and NSF-61 for compounded formulations ● Surface defect elimination and extrusion process optimisation (Doubling the rate of production for silicone tubing while eliminating deformations)● Improving autoclave gasket strength, durability and reducing gasket failure under demanding conditions and pressure/temperature cycling● Developing purge compounds for silicone extruders and optimising purging procedure to lower cleaning and turnover times between colour and rubber changes

● CHNG3803 is a third year project-based course.
