I have a natural puzzle/problem solving personality. I tend to be able to find solutions to problems rather quickly and can think inside and outside of the box at the same time.

Information Security AnalystLunarline, Inc May 2013 - May 2016Washington D.C. Metro Area- SOC/IR - Observe SIEM and develop incident reports based on network activity and IP traffic. Research source IPs to determine validity of threat within individual incidents. - C&A Work - A tedious but necessary evil in our field- Development - Figuring out how to make said tedious work go by more quickly so I can get to the fun stuff - breaking into your network.- Vulnerability Assessment/Pentesting - finding a system's flaws, usually things that could be mitigated if organizational security policies were just followed. (*Stop clicking on those strange emails and links within said emails. I'm pretty sure you don't know any Nigerian Princes that want to just hand you millions of dollars. You also, most likely, did not use your work email to send out UPS/FedEx/USPS packages.) -
InternU.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement (Ice) Jun 2012 - Feb 2013Denver, Co-Learned and taught Open Source Intel Gathering (AKA: Harness the power of the Almighty Google!)-Discovered that Homeland Security has one primary law enforcement division - they are located within ICE and called HSI (Homeland Security Investigations) and when I walked into work every day it looked nothing like Law and Order (SVU, Criminal Intent, Original), CSI (Miami, New York, Las Vegas), NCIS (Original or LA), Criminal Minds, The Shield, 24 (Yea, we don't really solve or complete investigations or cases in a day, week, months, and sometimes years), and any other myriad of law enforcement shows out there.-The largest percentage of cases we actually worked on were child exploitation (This is not only sickening but eye-opening) *Side note - don't pirate, we investigate that now too!-Overall a great experience, taught me a great deal and I will continue to learn and pass on that knowledge -
Infantryman / Training Room & Operations ClerkUs Army Sep 2009 - Feb 2013Colorado Springs, Colorado Area-My title was Infantryman but in reality I ended up being a Human Resources guy for my unit; Translation = I handled all administrative, financial, and separation paperwork and transactions. -My positions reinforced the fact that I am and always will be....a nerd.-Daily life was not Black Hawk Down, The Unit, Call of Duty, etc. Maybe during deployment, but only in active combat zones. *Not me, I was doing paperwork, using computers to track enemy and friendly forces, and pulling radio duty; not glorious, but hey I did get to talk to fighter pilots, fixed-wing pilots, coordinate air support, and learned a lot. -
Transportation Security OfficerUs Department Of Homeland Security Aug 2002 - Oct 2007Greensboro/Winston-Salem, North Carolina AreaScreened people to make sure harmful things did not get past security such as:-Liquids over 3.4 ounces (because TSA totally screens for bleach, ammonia, vinegar and other chemicals that could be mixed in dangerous ways)-Tools over 7 inches in length (because limiting tools to only Wrenches/Pliers/Screwdrivers under 7 inches means no one can do no harm or damage)-Sharp Objects of any type except for rounded butter knives (granted you shouldn't have a need for sharp objects on a plane but a swiss army knife is always handy)-Successfully re-certified on my duties annually without succumbing to or developing a heart condition (That's right, every year TSA contracts an organization to come through and verify that we know how to properly perform all of our job functions, even though almost all employees go back to their shortcuts immediately after passing their recert. Let's not forget that employees are notified in advance that should you fail you will lose your job - I equated this to outsiders spending a week learning the law and then telling law enforcement officers how to properly do their jobs. Tasks performed on a daily basis:-Xray observation and operation - I willingly admit that this skill doesn't take much time to master and eventually you end up looking at images trying to identify inappropriate things people are carrying in their luggage, also ceramic and thin plastic doesn't show up on Xray, just saying.-Physical Pat downs and Hand wands - Admittedly the most uncomfortable and intrusive task associated with this position and you still miss areas where items can be hidden.-Check Bag searches - Very useful duty as I learned amazing packing techniques that were later used when prepping my military gear for things like deployment, field training, etc. It also gives you an intimate and deep look into people's lives by seeing the items they choose to travel with.
