After 30 years of teaching in graduate academic education, 8 years at California Institute of Integral Studies, and 22 years at Saint Mary's College faculty in the M.A. in Leadership and Co-director of the Leadership Center, my educational work has fully moved outside these institutional settings. My work as a consultant, educator and coach is through my own organizations Leadership Learning Designs and In Place Learning. There I specialize in designing and facilitating innovative and transformative learning experiences that draw upon traditional and contemporary knowledge streams, link art and science, engaged mind, heart and body, which develop personal and social practices that cultivate heath and wisdom in individuals, organizations, and communities globally. I have taught over 150 classes at the university level, which have covered multiple topics, including leadership, organizational change, adult development, transformative learning, group facilitation, systems theory, learning community, environmental philosophy, participatory research, policy and systems change, and the arts in leadership and social change. We continuously update the program in response to the changing needs and aspirations of our learners’ lives, and the contexts in which they work. In 1993 I became a core faculty member, and over the past 20 plus years I have taught hundreds of international students in the Tamalpa Life/Art Process (an embodied and aesthetic approach to learning and leadership, which I have helped develop). My particular areas of focus include: • Applying an integrative approach to designing learning and change experiences• Developing capacities and skills in healthy group life, group improvisation, and collaboration • Cultivating creative and relational intelligences • Exploring the interplay of self, social, and ecological awareness • Designing personal and social change practices in work and life• Creating an embodied, embedded, and artful leadership practiceI have delivered all of the above programs in the U.S. and overseas.
