I provide communications services -- including consulting, writing, editing, branding, voiceover, and crisis communication support -- to companies, higher education, and nonprofit organizations. I continue to direct DePauw University's Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture Series, which has brought a range of high-profile visitors -- including Malala Yousafzai.

The Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture Series brings the world's leaders to DePauw's campus.A total of 116 Ubben Lectures have been presented since the series began in 1986 through a gift from 1958 graduates Tim and Sharon Ubben. All of the programs are free and open to the public.Past speakers have included Malala Yousafzai, Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher.

Greencastle, Indiana

• Asked to take on special advisor role in addition to continuing to perform all duties from prior post.
• Worked directly with the university president to strategize on executive and administrative communication related issues to advance the institution.
• Served as a liaison between the president on sensitive or timely issues with members of the media and other stakeholders.

• Served as point person for all external inquiries about university affairs and tailored messaging to meet the needs of key audiences; media outlets, donors, partners, alumni, parents, current and prospective students.
• Built and maintained relationships with the press, pitched stories proactively to strengthen the university’s brand and reputation.
• Wrote and produced news stories and releases for the university Web site (www.depauw.edu) to maximize exposure and served as architect and ongoing owner of the news’ area of the web site.
• Coached leaders throughout the university on communication issues and developed executive remarks, talking points, briefing documents, Q & As and other collateral materials.
• Responded to media needs 24/7 and facilitated publicity for campus events.

• Served as station’s secondary anchor; informing the public of national, regional and local events.
• Selected, researched, analyzed happenings and then wrote a daily story supported by film footage.
• Interviewed newsmakers, subject matter experts and sometimes viewers. Fact checked all information before broadcasting.
• Participated in editorial meetings.
• Co-hosted Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.

• Co-anchored the 5:30 p.m. news segment which became number one in the market, and served as back-up to the main anchor.
• Served as general assignment/trends and technology reporter.
• Investigated, produced, prepared and edited a daily segment for seven years.
• Partnered with 5:00 p.m. producer to select stories for the earlier newscast, write and edit many stories others delivered.
• Hosted “Top Story,” a weekly half hour public affairs program featuring one-on-one interviews with diverse and topical newsmakers, and other special programs such as Easter Seals Telethon.
• Recognized with numerous awards; Best Live Report, Best Newscast by the Associated Press, nominated for Emmy Award.

Asheville, NC- Greenville, Spartanburg, SC

Served as the station's primary male news anchor at 6 & 11 p.m. weeknights. A documentary resulting from a 10-day trip to the Soviet Union (with Billy Graham, who lived in the viewing area) was a finalist for a national IRIS Award.

Fort Wayne, IN

Served as the station's primary male anchor at 6 & 11 p.m., created a variety of special reports and general assignment stories, and hosted a weekly public affairs program. The station became #1 during my tenure.

I anchored and reported the news on this station, which signed on in February '84. By late summer, management decided to scrap the newscast. It was a great learning experience, having a hand in a station's pioneer days as it develops its brand and, more importantly, tries to get on the air.

The legendary (and wonderful) Fred Heckman lured me to the station with a full-time job and the promise that he'd "ride my a$$" and make me even better. A great experience that only came to an end because I was offered the opportunity to dip my toes in the waters of TV news. Fred remains an inspiration.

My Winter Term internship at DePauw became a part-time job. I signed on the campus radio station every morning at 6, went to classes, dealt with issues related to my role as station manager in the afternoon, drove to Indy, worked 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., and drove back to Greencastle for an hour or two of study and a like amount of sleep. Ah, to be young again!
