As a Sr. Sourcing Specialist my job is lead a group of 14 Sourcing Specialists while partnering with Sales and Customer Service to provide solutions and product outside our standard catalog offering. We work with suppliers to obtain quotes on anything from MRO, Safety, Janitorial, HVAC, and Material Handling, to other product that will keep our customers operational. Responsibility includes a team goal of 400 quotes per day with individual service goals of 28 RFQ’s pulled daily, 75% completed within 24 hours, and 50% completed within 8 hours. As a Senior Specialist I assist with coaching and training team members that have questions on pricing and supplier selection along with building relationships with our field partners and suppliers. Other key activities include negotiations and customer target price validation, ensuring we maximize revenue and grow gross profit. • Assisted in developing strategies for key corporate customers such as Sonoco, Atlanta UASI, and AT&T, resulting in reduced quote cycle time and doubling revenue.• Determine Sourcing strategy while using and developing best determined practices. • Lead and mentor teammates and help them to reach and exceed business goals.• Strategically handle opportunities as an acting Operational Manager on a case by case basis freeing the actual manager to be readily available for the team and other higher level opportunities. • Quotation analysis that helps determine which suppliers are being over or under-utilized based on their cost position with Grainger.• Work with a database of 20,000 vendors, 250 internal customers, and 150,000 external customers.

At W.W. Grainger we stock a wide variety of items through our catalog. The things I handle as a Sourcing Specialist are all of the things that are not included in our catalog. The customer or Account Manager supply us with information such as Brand, MFG Part Number and/or Specs and I take that information and search through our vast collection of suppliers to get what the customer is asking for by name. Should this item not be available to purchase I then would do my best to provide an alternate if possible. Once I have gathered all the pertinent information needed such as pricing from the supplier and availability I take that item and check a few variables, (such as discount from the supplier, purchasing history, and an internet pricing search) to see what price point we are going to go to market with.
