About Kent Howie

Senior Counsel in the Calgary and Ottawa offices of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), a national full-service Canadian law firm, where I advise on mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure and energy projects, joint ventures, and corporate finance transactions. I recently returned to BLG - where I was previously a senior business law partner for 20+ years - after completing 3 years of public service at the highest levels of the Department of Finance in Ottawa, initially as the Senior Adviser to the Deputy Minister during the COVID-19 pandemic, and then as an Assistant Deputy Minister leading a corporate finance branch of the Department. I provided public policy and investment advice to the Government of Canada on major nation-building equity and debt investments in commercial entities and projects. My time in Ottawa was a wonderful experience and a time of personal growth, providing me with the opportunity to help shape public policy and influence the activities of large sections of the Canadian economy. My knowledge and expertise span corporate commercial law, corporate finance, government, public policy, politics, accounting, and taxation, with an ability to lead teams and help my clients structure, negotiate, and complete complex transactions. I am an enabler, and use my extensive experience, broad skill set and excellent judgment to mitigate risk, solve problems and help clients to effectively and efficiently get done what is needed to be done to successfully achieve their business objectives.

Listed skills include Electricity Markets, Oil And Gas, Mergers And Acquisitions, Business And Corporate Commercial, and 3 others.
