I'm the Director of Research & Design @ Amplinate.Previously in Silicon Valley and at Microsoft, my career has spanned UX research, design, product planning, market research, and program management. My passions include collaborating in ways that turn colleagues into friends, solving problems (starting with identifying the right problems to solve), eclectic reading, and continuous learning. Plus motorcycle riding on twisty roads. As of October 2021, Amplinate is my new "home" after 25+ years at Microsoft. And from the start - being welcomed by Josh and Marcelo and the fabulous team they've put together - it truly does feel like home.Amplinate is an LGBT + Latino owned Research + Design firm that fast-tracks domestic and international product growth, helping any company with a digital footprint to save millions by building the right product for the right audience in the right markets. We are committed to promoting cross-cultural understanding, and deepening human connection through ethical product design. We’ve worked with Facebook, Microsoft, HP, and others to uncover target user behaviors, needs, and motivations which is paramount to defining, designing, positioning, and growing remarkable products that are built right the first time. With 40+ years of research experience and working across 18 countries, we’ve encountered hundreds of design challenges and developed the expertise to address each in a unique and impactful way.Our unique approach helps our clients build holistic and inclusive experiences for diverse markets. We provide product leaders with actionable insights and data to end the cycle of launches that don’t hit the mark due to being incremental band-aid solutions. We ensure your product solves problems that people across geographies and cultures care about. We celebrate diversity of perspectives, worldviews, and lived experiences, inclusive of perspectives from Queer, POC, ethnic diversity, and differently-abled communities. Amplinate is a proud member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY"What set Amplinate apart is that they are the full package: high level thinkers and strategic partners and at the same time provide flawless execution of all the many operational tasks required to conduct high quality research."- Ignacio Contreras, UX Researcher @ Facebook"This was the most enjoyable vendor research relationship I've had the privilege of working with in many years and thoroughly recommend to anyone in startups or big tech."- Darwin Mastin, UX Researcher @ Facebook

Principal Product PlannerMicrosoft Dec 2018 - Sep 2021Redmond, Washington, UsAs part of bringing to fruition the culture changes that Satya Nadella is driving for Microsoft, we have created a Customer-Driven initiative. This takes our CEO's directive that his company become truly "customer obsessed" and puts it into practice. My role in this is to drive new attitudes and behaviors for the entire Experiences+Devices (E+D) engineering organization that creates M365 experiences, including Windows, Office, Surface, and many other product teams.Efforts that I drive include training workshops that bring engineers together with customers, creating customer interaction opportunities for E+D product teams, defining co-create activities between product teams and customers, defining the strategies that allow for creating impactful engagements with enterprise customers, generally evangelizing our Customer-Driven messages across 17K+ engineers in E+D, and more.Since September 2019 I have also been on point to drive Customer-Driven strategy and activities at the Microsoft India Development Center (IDC) with our employees in Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Delhi. This in in parallel and aligned with our Customer-Driven efforts in Redmond, but also allows me the opportunity to experiment and customize our approach. In this role key tactics include networking and doing meta research (i.e., researching the needs of Microsoft teams in order to understand how they can better understand their customer needs). I'm also doing formative, field research in India in partnership with IDC employees in order to demonstrate the customer-driven behaviors that we are evangelizing others to adopt. -
Principal Product PlannerMicrosoft Dec 2016 - Dec 2018Redmond, Washington, UsWorking with both engineering and marketing teams, I was responsible for understanding the barriers as well as accelerators to deployment and adoption of Office 365 by our enterprise customers. The outcome from my research and my recommendations was not only to inform engineering and marketing decisions, but also to provide the "big picture" view of how Office and other software is considered, deployed, adopted, and managed at large companies. -
Principal Program ManagerMicrosoft May 2015 - Dec 2016Redmond, Washington, UsHow do we know about our customers' perceptions of our productivity solutions? What are key changes to drive to improve those perceptions? What are our action plans to reduce dissatisfaction, to create a highly satisfied user base, and to encourage our customers to become active advocates of our apps and services? Do we have both a top-down and bottom-up approach for achieving our NPS and overall satisfaction goals? I address those questions (and many more :)). Part of my job is about defining and executing a multi-faceted research strategy that's inclusive of surveys, usage data, in-app sentiment collection, and various qualitative follow ups. Another part is about deriving the key insights and delivering the stories from the research to execs and to engineering and marketing team leaders. And most imporantly our NPS team is all about driving actions that can result in better customer experiences. -
